D-War with Jason Behr - A Review

9822786_gal.jpgI bought this movie yesterday and watched it last night. My verdict? Not so good. I didn’t like it.

Basically the story starts out with Ethan (Jason Behr’s character) showing up to report on some disaster site to report (he is a reporter). He sees what looks like snake skin partially buried in the ground and he starts to remember an event that happened when he was a child. He and his father went into an antiquities shop and the old man that runs the shop “recognizes” young Ethan and tells him he is the incarnate of a young Korean man that was destined to protect the magical Yeouijoo which is basically a spirit that can turn an Imoogi (giant serpent) into a dragon. The Yeouijoo is contained within a young woman that is born with a serpent tattoo and when she turns 20 she can release the spirit. If the power goes to a bad Imoogi the world can potentially be destroyed. So of course the chosen girl wants to give it to a good Imoogi but this is made difficult because the bad Imoogi seeks her out relentlessly…AND the woman has to sacrifice herself in order to release the Yeouijoo. In ancient days the Korean protector of the Yeouijoo falls in love with the young woman that is its host and does not want to see her sacrificed so they run from the bad and good Imoogi and when cornered by the bad one they throw themselves off a cliff and die.

Ethan is told as a boy that he was this Korean man in a past life so when strange things start happening in the city (L.A.) he figures out that it must somehow be related and that he is supposed to find the Yeouijoo and the girl that carries it. Finding is her is all to easy in Hollywoodland and this is where the movie starts to take an incredulous turn.

I thought many of the special effects with lizards, serpents, and other magical creatures running rampant over LA were kind of cheesy. But the cheesiest part was that we are supposed to believe that when Ethan and Sarah (the Yeouijoo) meet they too fall automatically in love, despite the fact that neither remembers their past life.

They keep running from the bad Imoogi that is pursuing them at every turn but never try to find the good Imoogi because Ethan is not willing to let her be sacrificed. Which leads me to ask…would you rather run for as long as you can before a giant serpent will eventually find and kill you and then turn around and destroy the world?

Or would you rather sacrifice yourself to the good Imoogi (since you will die anyway) and have the world be saved at the same time? Duh??? Who in their right mind would pick option A? It is just silly that we see two characters even pondering this.

In the end we see soulful, heartbroken emotions from Ethan that remind me of Behr and Applegate in Roswell but the history and connection between Ethan and Sarah is just not there so the emotion seems bizarre. We needed a heck of a lot more time and dialogue to digest the supposed “love” between the two main characters. It seems all the events in this movie take place within a day or so. It is really incredulous that the audience is supposed to believe that these two people are so in love they will risk planetary destruction to remain together. IF they had remembered their past lives it might have been more palatable but there is no indication that they did.

The ending was also VERY unsatisfying. After all that happened and all the talk of destiny and what a great honor it is to be the protector of the Yeouijoo…the outcome for Ethan should have been different.

What I really wanted to see happen was for Ethan to remember his past life toward the end and start fighting like a warrior as his Korean predecessor did. That would have been cool. I would also have liked to know more about Sarah’s character as I had very little emotional attachment to her because I knew NOTHING about her really. More time needed to be spent on characters, story, and dialogue and not special effects.

Jason’s performance was good but how could his talent save a movie when the execution of the story is just BAD?

All in all….not such a good movie.

Jason Behr Movie Released on DVD

I hear that on January 8th, Dragon Wars or D-War with our very own Jason Behr will be released. Woot!

This is the basic story:

Based on the Korean legend, unknown creatures will return and devastate the planet. Every five hundred years, the Imoogi have the ability to become Dragons and, thereby, conquer the world by obtaining the magical Yeouijoo. Reporter Ethan Kendrick (Behr)  is called in to investigate the matter, and he arrives at the conclusion that a girl, stricken with a mysterious illness, named Sarah is suppose to help him. Ethan and Sarah are actually the reincarnates of an ancient Korean couple 500 years previous. The Imoogi makes its way to Los Angeles, wreaking havoc and destruction. With the entire city under arms, will Ethan and Sarah make it in time to save the people of Los Angeles?

Jason Behr To Star in Pinkville

According to The Hollywood Reporter, both Jason Behr and Cam Gigandet have joined Pinkville.

The film is based on the 1968 My Lai massacre, which saw U.S. troops murdering innocent women, children, and the elderly. United Artists is producing the film through MGM.

Behr is set to play Lt. Stephen Brooks, the commanding officer in charge of the GIs at My Lai. Gigandet is staring as Fred Widmar, a soldier who is wracked with guilt and shame after witnessing the slaughter of that day.

Behr and Gigandet join Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, Woody Harrelson, Michael Pena, Xzibit and Toby Jones, previously cast in the film.

Michael Pitt is being eyed for the part of the infamous Lt. Calley, who was found guilty of ordering the massacre.

Jason Behr is a Company Man

Jason Behr has landed the lead in Fox’s drama pilot “Company Man,” previously known as “NSA Innocent.” “Man,” from 20th Century Fox TV and Realtime Prods., centers on a family man (Behr) recruited by the National Security Agency as a spy within the defense contracting company he works for. Also cast in the pilot is Annie Wersching (”General Hospital”) as his wife.

The pilot originally was scheduled to go into production two weeks ago with Stephen Moyer as the lead. Following a table read March 12, the production start date was pushed in order to rework and recast the lead (HR 3/13). The main character and his wife, a role that had not been cast, are now significantly younger. Other major tweaks also have been made to Bob Cochran and David Ehrman’s original script by the project’s executive producers, including Cochran, Joel Surnow and Howard Gordon.

“Roswell” alum Behr’s upcoming features include “Skinwalkers,” “Senseless” and “The Tattooist.”

The word is that After Dark Films and Lionsgate have changed the date of a release for “Skinwalkers”. The film starring Jason Behr has moved from the July 4 weekend all the way up to March 30!

Jason Spotted at a FOX Party

Jason Behr along with his wife KaDee was spotted at the 2007 FOX Winter TCA party on Saturday, January 20th, at the Ritz-Carlton in Pasadena, Calif. Hit shows represented were: 24, Bones, Prison Break, and the upcoming series Drive and The Wedding Bells. He is looking as hot as ever!
